Better Support for Older People in the Highlands
October 2004

The Highland Senior Citizens' Network circulated a questionnaire to gather information on a range of issues like social work services, health, housing, transport and personal security, which are of concern to older people.  The aim of the survey was to gather information which could be used to influence the policy and practice of those providing services to older people.

The project was supported by the Older People's Project Support' (OPPS) Study which is jointly funded by the University of Teeside and Help the Aged.

The HSCN sent copies of the survey to decision-makers in Highland, including the NHS, Social Work Services, transport planners, the police authority, Members of the Scottish Parliament and Jack McConnell, Scottish First Minister.

The findings have given HSCN something to work towards for the next couple of years and enable the Network to lobby those in power on the issues of concern to older people in the Highlands.
